We are what we think. All that we are arises with our thoughts. With our thoughts, we make the world.

Recent Analog Photograhy

You know at first, I was a little bummed about this picture...I'm still getting used to my camera, and getting the shots clear, but the more I looked at this, I found a sort of beauty to it. Maybe a lot of the photography we see is too clear, too cookie cutter, maybe the world is seen too clear, maybe I'm trying to justify my suckiness, but there's something I really like about the vagueness in this picture, and I'm glad it didn't turn out great. This was my nephew's idea. A double exposure of a dead end sign in a graveyard. I thought it was pretty creative for a 12 year old...that or sick. It hard to see whats going on here, but this also a double exposure of an angel in an outhouse, Also my nephews idea. Having kids is awful. Hanging around kids can be fantastic. I love this building, I am always taking pictures of it. Burnt down several years ago with just a bit of it remaining makes for a splendid picture. This was in color, and I did photo shop it to black and white. Someday I hope to do a whole show of nostalgic architecture. The next shots are red scale. I can't tell you how much I love red scale. Its really hard to mess up, and it seems to always turn an ordinary picture into something beautiful.

An Octolier?

As you may know...I love ants, octopus, owls, and jellyfish. All which I think are fascinating creatures, but I especially love octopus. This guy makes octopus chandeliers !! They are gorgeous, and I want one !!

San Fransisco Artist

Lawrence Yang wrestles with informational abstractions by day and paints by night. Influenced by graffiti art and traditional chinese painting, he employs ink, marker, and watercolor, as the permanence of this media adds a sense of immediacy to his work. Lawrence's paintings make use of color to communicate atmosphere and emotion, and they are concerened primarily with creating order out of chaos (and vice versa).

Wired up

So I've been making rings non-stop lately, out of random buttons and wire. Makes me wonder what else I can do with wire. Wire is fun stuff. I can't take all the credit for it...I actually got the idea from a woman in Portland, who made them in her boutique...this is the one i bought from her...I wanted to try to make them myself, so i did, and their actually pretty easy. You only need a few simple tools...some beading wire ( i like to use 24 gage) some needle nose pliers, and of course some buttons, or beads whatever you prefer. One thing I do need though, is a mandrel, which I just recently discoverd. It allows you to wrap the wire around it to create a specific ring size....Here are some I have made so far.....
Yesterday I went to the antique store....( I just realized I must sound like martha stewart) I found these antique buttons from the late 1800's..so now i plan on making some vintage rings...aren't these beautiful? Oh, if a button could speak.

5 min. art

Art doesn't have to take a long time, or look perfect. Art is for the maker. I was watering my tulips today and found one that had broken off from the wind and lying on the ground. I took it inside, painted its petals red, the inside green, and stamped it onto a poster board, drew in the stem, stamped on the leaves. I filled in the background by sponging silver mixed with the red and green, using a paper towel. I burnt the edges of the poster board, and..

VOILA'... 5 min. art with 3 colors and a tulip. Do anything, just do something once a day :)

PUSH

I don't know about you but I'm a bit of a button freak, and if there's a button in site I gotta push it. Including people's buttons, yes, I will push those too ;) Check out this site for super instant fun.

DIY

I would like my blog to inspire others to do something creative everyday. It doesn't have to be big, it doesn't always have to be art, but DO something. Anything. I would like to talk about doing things yourself for a moment. So much of our lives are consumed with, well consuming. Spending money on things we think we need. I have personally found that true joy comes from creating. There is a peace found within working with your hands, using your imagination, that just can't be found in purchasing something off the shelf at a Wal-mart or target for instance. With that being said, I am human as well, and we would all agree that we will most likely continue to buy those things we think we need even though we understand its empty worth. So here's my idea. Find something you want, you need, you have to have, but try making it yourself. You still get what you want, but at least you're getting some creativity in there, and usually for a cheaper price. I promise you it will be time well spent. I know, I know, we can't always make everything we want. A car, a curling iron, some new golf clubs...but you can ask yourself...could i go try to make this necklace I like, or one similar? Okay, so I think you get the point. Just DIY. You won't regret it. Here's an example of what I did...I hope it inspires you.... I was at the thrift store and I see this vanity....

Do I want it yes...do I have $300 no. I could just put it on my credit card right? No, because consuming every little thing you want will not make you happy. If you don't have the money, you don't have the money. Its so simple, but people still don't seem to get it. So I leave the store, a little sad. I've been wanting a vanity for so long, and its just my taste...the next weekend I hit a garage sale...I see an old vanity desk in the corner for $15. Its ugly, its brown, its cracking, but I see its beauty. I load it up take it home...with a little sand paper and red spray paint...$10 roughly...It's lookin good...Next, I hit up home depot for some gold hardware and find some nice Chinese inspired handles... about $40...and there you have it. The vanity, I just thought I had to have was surprisingly mine, but only cost me $65.

My new mintalicious camera !!

Here are a few of my first pics with it...these are awful and obviously under-exposed but this is old school people, I'm still learning.

This is quite adorable, an old couple walk arm-in-arm in oldtown Albuquerque
My first double exposure

So I took this camaro for a little spin yesterday. Steve Buscemi asked to come along...I was like "whatever, just don't be a back seat driver, okay?" Quiet as a mouse, even at 90MPH (the car that is) and what a silky shifter. Its only 27,000 so I'll probably pick it up next payday. My jetta is getting soo boring.
